Newsletter: December 2020
Namaste from me at WOCY!
Welcome to the first of my regular Monthly Newsletters where I share how I’ve been developing my WOCY offering with yoga for children, their families and their wider communities, including Schools and Nurseries.
This month’s newsletter is a ‘bumper’ edition, as I bring you up to date with what I’ve been doing for most of the year. Here’s a summary of what’s coming up in this month’s newsletter.
Reflections of 2020: What a year and what a time in history that I think we will never forget! I share my thoughts on learning from the year.
Website Launch: On 14th November (Diwali) this year, I finally launched my new Website! In the year to come I’ll be adding free content and I’ll also be launching a Subscription Service with additional content too
Live Family Yoga classes: Live family yoga classes have been running in a Co-Vid secure way since September, when permitted by local and national restrictions. As soon as we’re able, live family yoga classes will start back in the new year, with some small price increases.
Live classes for Schools and Nurseries: It’s been great to re-start working with schools and nurseries since September, and again dependent on local and national restrictions I look forward to resuming these when we are able in the new year. New workshops will also be available for Parents and School and Nursery Staff.
End of year activity: Coming to the end of the year, I think we have a great deal to be grateful for, so I share with you an activity I shared with my December Mum & Daughter classes, as a guide to thinking about the last year – a Reverse Bucket List.
Season’s Message: I leave you with a final thought for the year…
Reflections of 2020
Do you ever ask yourselves the question about why we have been facing challenging times individually, as communities, nationally and globally?
Well Tibetan Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche's observations offer some perspectives, which completely resonate with me:
'In my opinion, all the news and reactivity about the virus is part of a collective fear manifesting in our responses to what is happening in the world. Recently there has been so much negativity in society and on social media, between politicians, political parties, religious groups and individuals. There is so much energy spent in defending and attacking, and in being separate or cut off from others. It is as if the world is saying, okay, you need to take a break from being mean to each other. Now we have an opportunity to set aside our differences and work together for a solution to stop the spread of the virus, care for the sick and support the families of its victims.'
Compassion for each other and all living things on this earth are what I feel we need now.
My Dad always told me we live in heaven and I couldn't agree more! So let's enjoy the beauty of the earth and every person, every animal, every plant and tree, every drop of water we share this space with. Let's listen to the messages we've been given...it’s not just our children shouting out about climate change any more, this is a BIG MESSAGE, a HUGE MESSAGE, so let's act with kindness and love.
Website Launch
On 14th November (Diwali) this year, I finally launched my new Website, World of Children’s Yoga
I’ve spent most of the last year developing online content for my Website, so I can share my passion for yoga practices, ideas and principles. I’ve turned these yoga practices into practical and modern tools to help us make sense of the world and our relationships in it, to CONNECT us all.
I’ll soon be adding some of these ideas to the Website, sharing yoga you can do at home, at school, in the office, when you’re short of time, when you have more time and when you just want to connect through quality interactions with your family.
There will be some free content and more content will be available via my new Subscription Service.
My NEW Subscription Service will include access to:
· Daily Activities: a range of activities and experiences, to inspire you to learn about yourselves, others and the world around you.
From January, these Daily Activities will be free for one week from the day of posting and will then be available via the Subscription Service.
· At least three new family yoga classes each month, mirroring the themes of my live classes with:
o Pre-Schoolers (up to years)
o Children & Tweens (5-11 years)
o Teens & Adults (from 12 years)
· New Chair based yoga practices to develop awareness of how yoga can enhance your wellbeing and be integrated into daily life, wherever you may be, whatever you may be doing.
The Subscription Service will be offered at a 20% discount for all clients currently attending WOCY Live Classes.
WOCY Daily Activities
You can find all of my Daily Activities and other free content on my YouTube Channel, some of which will be moved to my subscription service from January.
Live Family Yoga classes
With thanks to St Margaret’s School in Bushey, it’s been great to re-start live family yoga classes with Children, Tweens and Teens, in a Co-Vid secure way, since September, when permitted by local and national restrictions. As soon as we’re able, live family yoga classes will start back in the new year.
Family Yoga Price Increase
There will be some small price increases for family yoga classes as I will be re-introducing pre-Co-Vid adult pricing, which will increase from an additional £1.00 to £2.00 per adult, per class. Currently, one adult per family is admitted due to the limit on class numbers and I will update you on permitted class numbers as restrictions relax.
WOCY Water Aqua Natal Yoga and WOCY Family Yoga with Babies
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to run these pre-natal and post-natal yoga classes since March, although I hope to be able to re-start these at some point in the New Year.

Live classes for Schools and Nurseries
It was great to re-start working with Acorn Montessori again from September and these have been running on a live and Zoom basis, dependent on local and national restrictions.
We look forward to resuming these and other Schools and Nursery classes with Pre-Schoolers, Children, Tweens & Teens when we are able in the new year.
WOCY for School Professionals
Before lockdown, I started running after school classes for School Professionals at St Hilda’s in Bushey. I’m now available to run more of these to further support the wellbeing of school staff.
NEW WOCY Classroom Breaks
As mentioned above, I have developed a series of Chair based yoga practices, with the initial offering being aimed at Staff and Pupils in Senior Schools. These WOCY Classroom Breaks come with a Teacher’s Instructional Guide and Videos. Teachers can then use individual Classroom Breaks as a ‘reset’ or ‘transition’ between classes or show Videos directly to pupils.
In the next phases of this project, I’ll be developing WOCY Classroom Breaks for Staff and Pupils in Primary Schools and in Early Years Settings.
NEW Parent and Staff Workshops
I’m also introducing new workshops for Parents and School and Nursery Staff who are keen to introduce short yoga practices for health and wellbeing into their daily lives, the lives of their families and/or the children they work with.
End of year activity
Many of us make new year’s resolutions, although coming to the end of the year, I think we have a great deal to celebrate and a great deal to be grateful for. So, I share with you an activity as a guide to thinking about the last year – a Reverse Bucket List. I shared this with my December Mum & Daughter classes, and it’s also the subject of my last WOCY Daily Activity of 2020, so you have advance sight of this activity here!
With thanks to Yvonne Bertovick for her article on joincake.com for the idea!
Here are some ideas for what you can think about, and maybe write down to keep and look at when you feel down or you find things challenging...
1. Personal achievements - this can be any time you've challenged yourself, maybe stood up to someone and succeeded
2. Athletic of Health Achievements - this can be personal achievements or goals you’ve reached
3. Educational Achievements - this can be anything you've learnt, large or small
4. Places you've visited - anywhere you've been before, or new places you've explored!
5. People who matter to you - any family, friends, teachers or others who you really appreciate and are grateful for
6. Pets or animals you've spent time with - the experiences and adventures you've had with them
7. How you've helped others - you should be proud of yourself!
8. Times you've messed up - and the lessons you've learnt that have helped you grow
Season’s Message
I leave you with a final thought for the year…
“Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us and the world will be as one.”
John Lennon
Wishing you and yours a festive season full of gratitude, compassion, kindness and peace!
Namaste – the light in me honours the light in you
